The Old Deanery - Restaurant With Rooms, hotel in Ripon

Dating back to the 17th century, The Old Deanery - Restaurant With Rooms Hotel was built on the site of the monastery of St Wilfred.

Just a little somethin' to break the monotony of all that hotel formulaic globalised product. This place is perfect, chic, very welcoming, an historic building with all that entails. The food is utterly brillant. The tasting menu one of the very best in the UK at this moment. And breakfast fabulous. This is intelligent, witty, thoughtful, and very authentic, restaurant with rooms. Wonderful garden, with birds chirping their little hearts out for all to hear. Chef Adam Jackson, is a master craftsman, the rest of the team, Alex , Diane, and Chloe were relaxed, professional, charming, elegant, and thoughtful.

This was a super find, room beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean with every facility. We were fortunate enough to eat at the restaurant which was superb. The owners of the property and restaurant were wonderfully friendly and attentive and made our stay a real pleasure

    Liked looking around the Cathedral.

Liked looking around the Cathedral. Quite a lit of ordinary eateries but we liked Manchega. If you like real ale go to the One Eyed Rat but it doesn't serve meals. A number of shops and businesses have closed down and it's much like many towns these days. It's a fantastic base for visiting Newby Hall, Fountains Abbey, RHS Harlow Carr and Thorp Perrow arboretum.

Ripon is a small city - very small, but it has some charming cobbled streets to explore and, of course, a beautiful cathedral which is well worth a visit. We were lucky enough to hear the choir practising when we stopped in. There are lots of cafes and restaurants in Ripon. On our recent mini-break, we ate at Claro Lounge, Mario's, Oliver's Pantry and The Royal Oak - all located in or near the Market Square - and would be happy to recommend all of them.

Lovely little city with lots if interesting places nearby to, good bus services if you don't want to use your car. A delight to see how proactive the residents are to decorate their city up for the forthcoming d day anniversary, it is a real credit go them. The nightly horn blowing ceremony is very interesting as well

The workhouse, victorian prison and the courthouse were fascinating. Also a beautiful Cathedral, lovely river walks parks. Excellent bus service to Harrogate and surrounding areas, all for £2.00 or bus pass. Nice places to eat and a very pretty little city. Would recommend as once there you don't need a car unless you want to explore further.

Ripon Cathedral was holding a Spring Fayre fundraiser - lots of stalls and a choir festival! There is a Museum walking Trail There are independent places to eat and one of the larger chains in the market square which suited us! Unfortunately the Spa Swimming Baths is closed - would've loved to see inside!

Very quaint, olde English city. plenty of history to immerse into ie Cathedral, workhouse, courtrooms etc. Lots of different place to eat. Quite busy with traffic thru though. but has a pleasant pedestrianised area with lots of local artisan shops etc. Definitely worth a visit.

A really great location right on the market square in Ripon. Although there's no parking at the hotel, there is overnight parking in the Sainsbury's car park a short walk away for very reasonable prices (I think we paid around £2.50 for 24 hours). Rooms looked smart and were generally much better than I was expecting for a Wetherspoons, I'd definitely be happy to go back. There was also a good choice on the children's menu for our toddler.

The apartment was spacious, comfortable and well equipped with everything needed for a self-catering stay. With a dedicated parking space and located close to the city centre, it made a perfect base for our mini-break in Ripon. Thoughtful touches like towelling robes, toiletries in the bathroom, and a welcome basket of Yorkshire produce all added to the enjoyment of our stay.

It was off the main road into Ripon, so not one that you could walk. It said on the website, '2 minutes' from Ripon and it was, but by car. I had misread it and thought we were staying in Ripon and could walk around the town. The food was delicious and Seamus tried hard to be helpful and was very friendly and informative.

the hosts were very accommodating, we travelled up from Dorset for a funeral and they allowed us slightly early entry. The key safe was easy to locate and use. The house was located in a quiet street around 15 mins walk from Ripon centre. Lovely house with everything you need.

Firstly remember it’s a pub and not a hotel, so it’s a bit different. That said, comfy beds, good food and a friendly bar downstairs. It wasn’t too noisy, on busy mornings the service can be a bit slow, and it was in a great spot. If we went to Ripon again we would stay here.
